I think people are over reacting in regards to the Urban Outfitters Kent State University sweater. Yes, it was an awful school shooting. All shootings are awful. It’d be different if it was, say, a Virginia Tech sweater with blood all over it. That was student on student. If it was a Boston Marathon sweater with blood all over it, that would be different. Nearing the end of the unpopular Vietnam war, America started a new unpopular campaign in Cambodia. People started protesting nationwide. At one such protests, at the Kent State University, the Ohio National Guard shot & killed four people & injured nine others. These people were part of a movement aimed at stopping bloodshed, inflicted by their country, halfway across the world. Their country’s response? Killing them. I think in the light of Ferguson, in the light of America going into Iraq again, in the light of NATO arming Ukraine, it’s good to be reminded of the horrors committed on our own soil, by our own governments. I think the people who were killed would support Urban Outfitters because it would keep people thinking about what they died for. They died to stop death, and if we don’t do anything about it, more death is going to happen.
